Northern Boobook (Ninox japonica) Inhabits low to medium-altitude mountain areas (forest edge) They have several foraging sites, usually near street lights Northern Boobook their food source is mainly insects, include moths, chafers. It occasionally preys on small vertebrates such as birds, rats, frogs, and lizards. In the ethnic groups close to human settlements, in addition to large insects, they catch high proportion of East Asian house bats and House Swifts. Previously , we think the Northern Boobook appearing in the plains in autumn and winter was a migratory transit bird group. According to new research, most of these are individuals that have spread from the mountains to the plains. Recent research has even shown sedentary Taiwanese population may represent a unique cryptic lineage. (HBW alive)
